Artist Biography:
Alice Bowen-Churchill is an artist and designer based in Bristol, UK, who creates interactive artworks, participatory projects, workshops, and events.
She works with people from a wide range of backgrounds, ages and cognitive differences to encourage looking, making and thinking through creative play. The primary focus is on working together, inspiring playfulness, curiosity and experimentation. I believe that creative practice should and can be made available and accessible to everyone.
Alice is proud to have worked with Oxfam, Joint Charities Partners, Spectroscope and the Wellcome Collection.
She is fascinated by the power of collaboration, creative action and how this can start a conversation. She has been using collaborative stitching as a means to slow us down, bring us together, and transform something small into something lasting.
One of her standout creations is a large flag measuring 5m x 6m, crafted from recycled hot air balloon fabric. This flag is embellished with climate pledges collected from the Glastonbury Festival community and was dramatically dropped from the Park Stage during a call to action for the Climate Crisis. This piece was commissioned by the Joint Charities partners.
Additionally, Alice designed an innovative dress made from recycled tents, featuring contributions stitched in by festival-goers at Glastonbury Festival, Latitude, and Boardmasters. This striking dress made a statement at London Fashion Week, as it opened the 2024 OXFAM: Style for Change show, worn by model Eunice Olumide.
